Welcome to the official Website of Society for Emergency Medicine, India (SEMI)

Presidents message :

President's Letter to The Editor in Chief of India Today

Dear Sir,
In connection with the article “It’s an Emergency, Doctor…” published in your magazine(Volume XXXV Number 32: For the week August 3-9, 2010, released on August 2) I am writing to you.

On behalf of Society for Emergency Medicine India (www.semi.org.in) let me express our sincere gratitude to you for highlighting such an important issue which the whole country should definitely be aware of.

However we have certain observations:

1. Society for Emergency Medicine India (SEMI) is working hand in hand with various government agencies for development of Emergency Medicine in India. At no point of time we feel there is inertia to this noble cause. The Medical Council and National Board have asked the Society to advocate the policies and protocols to be followed to develop academic Emergency Medicine.

2. EM Education in this country has already started ten years ago through various Universities in India & Foreign Universities from UK & USA.

Therefore the view expressed by Dr. Suresh David is not acceptable to the Society.

3. The Society strongly condemns the derogatory remarks of Dr. Suresh David stating emergency clinicians of India as loose collection of professionals. This is his own perception and not the Society’s official stand point. The members of the Society are deeply hurt by such remarks which was published without the knowledge of present office bearers of the Society.

Society for Emergency Medicine India is one and only affiliate member  of the International Federation for Emergency Medicine (www.ifem.cc), the global body for Emergency Medicine. Hence in future I expect that you will consult us before you decide to publish an article on Emergency Care in India.
Thanks & Regards,
Dr.S.Sasikumar M.D
President, Society for Emergency Medicine India
