Welcome to the official Website of Society for Emergency Medicine, India (SEMI)

Presidents message
INTEM 2010, the 12th International Conference on Emergency Medicine of SEMI (Society for Emergency Medicine, India) is just one month away. And it is going to be held in Ahmedabad and not in Goa or Mangalore as it was earlier announced. The dates however remain the same – 10th to 14th of November 2010.

If you are wondering why so late an announcement, it is due to organizational glitches that were beyond SEMI’s control.

SEMI turned to Lifeline Foundation, the pioneers of Highway EMS in India to host the Conference at Ahmedabad. Lifeline had successfully claimed its stake to host EMCON 2011 (at the AGM of SEMI last November).

Given that they were in preparatory mode for the event in 2011 and that they had recently hosted MoVACon (the 1st International Conference on Motor Vehicle Accident) in Ahmedabad, Lifeline seemed to be a natural choice left with SEMI’s executive council.

Lifeline took up the gauntlet; it has to be appreciated that Lifeline understood the significance of INTEM & accepted to host the Conference. This is so because the momentum gained by MCI approving EM as a MD specialty would be lost if the conference is not held in regular continuity.

Despite the short time, Lifeline has taken it upon themselves to make sure that logistics are in place and will, as assured to SEMI, “not leave any stone unturned to make the meet a success”.

As the President of SEMI, I feel proud that in agreeing to host INTEM in Ahmedabad, Lifeline has proved how deeply entrenched EM is in India and how significant is SEMI’s contribution towards EM. At the same time, it is my request to all of you, in EM and out of it but associated with it to make it a point to be in Ahmedabad.

INTEM 2010 also assumes significance because this is the 1st INTEM, where the focus is on “India and South Asia”. This is our chance to stand tall. A scientific committee co-ordinated by Dr. Tamorish Kole of Max Hospital is already working overtime to bridge the lack of time to put up a good scientific program. This is an INTEM to watch out for and attend since this is our first attempt to “have an EM as relevant to India and not to be a copy and paste from the West”.

See you in Ahmedabad from the 10th to 14th of November 2010. Dr. S.K Nanda, IAS, the Organising Chairman and Dr. Subroto Das, CEO of Lifeline Foundation and the organising secretary are there to welcome you.
Sincerely,
        Dr.S.Sasikumar M.D (Emergency Medicine)
