It
is heartening to know that the Society for emergency
Medicine, India, North East chapter is organizing
EMCON 2009, the 11th Annual International Conference
on Emergency Medicine at Guwahati, Assam.
I am happy that you have chosen a very appropriate
theme in this millennium stressing on “Team
work in Emergency care”.
The Medical Council Of India, in its amendment dated
21st July 2009, approved “Emergency Medicine”
as a separate specialty in India & EMCON 2009
is the 1st conference being held after the approval.
Right from the day of its inception SEMI is constantly
striving towards the vision to facilitate development
and incorporation of this very necessary specialty
in nook and corner of India with an aim to intervene
at the life’s critical moments.
The rich heritage of researches, discoveries and
development in the field of emergency medicine over
the years have made this specialty a unique one
not only inside the country but throughout the globe.
Since EMCON receives a unique catchments from members
not only from the specialty of emergency medicine
but also from related branches of medical fraternity
the scientific deliberation and academic interactions
during this conference will go a long way in enriching
the noble tradition what emergency medicine is meant
for.
Even though organizing such a conference of this
scale and magnitude is a great challenge as well
as a herculean task, yet the members of the organizing
committee have left no stone unturned to meet the
participant’s wishes and desire.
This years conference is scheduled for a total of
five days which includes 2 days of Preconference
Workshops on Disaster Management, Emergency Management
of seriously ill and injured patients, Emergency
Radiology, Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Mechanical
Ventilation, Critical Care and Toxicology.
The main conference topics are also excellent and
it is overwhelming to know that the faculties from
all over the globe including USA, UK and Australia
apart from well renowned emergency medicine faculties
from India who have been the back bone for its growth
in India.
I hope this conference will offer us an excellent
opportunity to share information, discuss important
issues, exchange ideas on priority emergency concerns
of diverse nature and sum up our lesson from experience
to draw meaningful recommendations and future work
plan.
I wish the organisers of EMCON 2009 a grand success.
